Geoff Stevens

Geoff Stevens born West Bromwich 1942 and educated in Wednesbury and Wolverhampton and worked as an Industrial Chemist for 37 years until his retirement.

Interested in local history, Geoff became a committee member of The Black Country Society, and Director of its Industrial Archaeology Group.

Prompted by a local dialect poetry explosion in the 1970's, Geoff began to become interested in poetry in a wider sense and started publishing Purple Patch poetry magazine in 1976.

His own poetry has been published regularly in the U.K. and U.S.A., as well as Europe, Australasia, India, Japan and South America. In addition to numerous pamphlets and audio/visual productions, his poems have appeared in book length editions, including The Phrenology of Anaglypta (Bluechrome Publications) and Absinthe On Your Icecream (Purple Patch / Poetry Monthly Press).

He has appeared at well over one hundred different places, and continues to give readings at regular venues.

In 2001, he and Brendan Hawthorne formed Poetry Wednesbury.

IHis artwork has been used to illustrate numerous poetry magazines and his paintings / collages have been exhibited at Wednesbury Art Gallery, Christ At The Cornerstone Church in Milton Keynes, and in Spain.

A fuller, illustrated biography appears on Geoff's own website which can be found at www.geoffstevens.co.uk.
