Poetry Wednesbury was formed by Geoff Stevens and Brendan Hawthorne in 2001 as a platform for the work of local poets. It provides regular venues for readings, discussion, and occasional workshop instruction. Our members range from complete beginners to internationally recognised writers (and all levels in between!)
The group is also a publishing vehicle, having produced well-received books, CD's, videos, and pamphlets. A truly multi-media organisation for the modern age.
We have an outgoing attitude, welcome networking, and can often be found undertaking performance work outside of our local area in the midlands.
Members of the group have appeared at the Wednesbury Arts Festival, as well as our town's Remembrance Day Services along with numerous National Poetry Conventions - including the prestigous Oxford Convention, Bewdley Writers Festival,Walsall New Art Gallery, Bloxwich Library Theatre, Halesowen Shenstone Theatre, and the BBC Open Space in Birmingham as well as being regulars at Birmingham's annual Arts Fest.
Visitors from outside the area are invited to attend and/or participate at his regular open poetry evenings.
